"Barack Obama Riding the Big Wave of Change"

by Ken Charon

This painting was created during October 2008, the last month of the Obama campaign for president.  Earlier in August Obama had been seen  bodysurfing at Sandy’s Beach on Oahu, stricking this classic pose.

Hawaii artist, Ken Charon saw this as the perfect way to illustrate the momentum building behind Obama’s rise to power, in a Hawaiian setting.

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961 and graduated from Punahou School in Honolulu.  He learned to bodysurf in Hawaiian waters. Let’s hope this helps him navigate the turbulent waters of Washington D.C.
to change it for the better.
